چکیده

Using time resolved ESR spectroscopy and photoflash conductivity the uncatalysed, first order decay of 2-hydroxy-propyl-2-peroxyl radicals and the uncatalysed, first order generation of 0 2~ and H + were measured to have the same rate constants. The formation of 0 2~ and H+ was measured in H20 and D 20 and a kinetic isotope effect of kH/k = D3.5 was obtained. Comparing the rate constants of the peroxyl radicals derived from methanol, ethanol and 2-propanol it was shown that the rate constant increases with increasing methyl-substitution. In 2-propanol water mixtures the rate constant of the 2-hydroxy-propyl-2-peroxyl radical increases only slightly with increasing polarity of the solvent. The experimental results are in accord with a mechanism which involves a cyclic transition state leading to a concerted elimination of H 0 2‘ followed by dissociation into H+ and 0 2~ .

Diisopropyl Ether, Hydroxyl Radicals, Peroxyl Radicals, Pulse Radiolysis In the radiolysis of N 2 0/0 2 (4 :1 )-saturated aqueous solutions of diisopropyl ether(10~ mol dm ~), OH radicals abstract H-atoms, thereby producing radicals at C(2) (1 = 78%) and to a lesser extent at C(l) (2 — 22%) which are converted by oxygen into the corresponding peroxyl radicals 3 and 4. Acetonylperoxyl Radicals, CH3C0CH20 2: A Study on the y-Radiolysis and Pulse Radiolysis of Acetone in Oxygenated Aqueous Solutions

Hydroxyl radicals from the radiolysis of N20 / 0 2 (4:l)-saturated aqueous solutions of acetone (10 3 mol dm -3) react with the solute by H-abstraction thereby forming acetonyl radicals. As shown by pulse radiolysis, the acetonyl radicals rapidly add oxygen (k = 3 x 109 dm3m ol_1s_1) thereby forming acetonylperoxyl radicals which decay by second-order kinetics (2 k = 8 x 10* dm3mol 's -1). Hydroxyl Radical-Induced Oxidation of Ethanol in Oxygenated Aqueous Solutions. A Pulse Radiolysis and Product Study

y-Radiolysis of N20-saturated water or photolysis of aqueous H2O2 provided a source of OH radicals. These radicals react with ethanol by preferentially abstracting an H atom at C-l. In the presence of oxygen these radicals are converted into the corresponding peroxyl radicals. The a-hydroxyethylperoxyl radicals decay by first order kinetics (k = ki + k2 [OH -]) acetaldehyde and H02/H+ + 01 bein...
